Using visualization techniques to help reduce stress and anxiety

Many factors impact how we react to stress in our lives.

Small stresses can build up to trigger large anxieties and impact our well-being. What happens to our bodies during times of stress can affect our day-to-day lives. We might encounter more aches or pains, exhaustion, headaches, muscle tension as a result of stress and anxiety. There are many symptoms of stress, so learning to reduce and better manage stress can have a positive impact. That’s where visualization and practising your technique can help.

Whilst the use of mental imagery and visualization can help us to feel more productive and focussed towards a particular goal, it can also be used to help us feel calmer, more positive and shift into a different mindset. Visualization is a powerful technique and when practised often it can help us deal with stressful situations and times when we feel most anxious. Athletes, for example, use visualization techniques to help them perform better during high-stress competitions. They are able to use mental imagery to focus on their goal, help them take control of their emotions and prime their mind to what they want to achieve. Entrepreneurs also use visualization to calm their nerves before an important pitch or a meeting. Visualization, when practised often, can have a lasting effect on our confidence and ability to take control of a scenario and feel more relaxed.

The use of visualization allows us to experience how we want any situation to play out. Our mental imagery allows us to rehearse the scenario so we perform at our best at that moment. In the same way, we can use mental imagery to bring us to a place of calm. When we encounter a particularly stressful moment in our day, we can bring ourselves back to our place of calm and react in a controlled state with a shift in our mindset. We can use this technique as often as we need to. This helps us to reduce the symptoms of stress and anxiety in the body.

Using the EnVision app, we can be guided to places of calm and relaxation. Perhaps a walk through nature or the mountains will help us de-stress, or a quick reset session in the middle of the day will ease anxious thoughts. There are plenty of scenarios to choose from in the EnVision app that will help you refresh so you are able to return to your day with a renewed sense of energy.
