What is visualization?

Visualization is the process of creating images within the mind. This can be as simple as picturing where you left something in your house, and as complex as experiencing yourself achieving a goal in the future.

While the process of creating and picturing images within the mind may seem straightforward, if practiced effectively and systematically with the proper techniques, it can have a huge and profound effect on your productivity, performance and wellbeing. It can positively affect all areas of your life and in fact, in order to be truly successful, we must consider all areas of life in a holistic way.

An example of a visualization exercise

A quick and simple visualization exercise is to picture your favorite place in the world. This can be somewhere relaxing, an exciting place, or somewhere you have a good memory of visiting.

Allow the images to come to you as they will. We recommend you read through the visualization exercise first before trying it out.

A quick and simple visualization exercise is to picture your favorite place in the world. This can be somewhere relaxing, an exciting place, or somewhere you have a good memory of visiting.

Take yourself back to this place and allow the images to come to you as they will. Notice the details of what you see around you and take a moment to feel the sense of joy that this place brings you.

You have just visualized!

How does visualization work?

Whilst visualization can be simple, to use it as a success tool and be able to make real change in your life, there is a lot more involved in the process than simply creating images in your mind.

When we visualize something, the mind experiences it in a similar way to how it experiences the same thing in reality. So this means that when you visualize something, you activate the same neural pathways in the brain as if you were actually experiencing those things in real life. In this way, the subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between imagination and reality.

Each time we visualize, we trigger different responses in the brain and in doing so we start to shift our mindset to become more positive, and we are empowered to change our lives. The science behind visualization has shown us that it has a profound impact on performance, health and success.

Q&A with EnVision's Founder, Elliott Lyons

What should I include on my board?

Your board should be unique and include images, quotes, text and color to inspire you.

Can I have more than one board?

There’s no rule on how many boards you can create. You can use one board for all areas of your life, for example, work and personal goals. Or, if you prefer, you can have individual boards for areas of your life. Above all, make sure your boards are inspirational.

How often should I update my vision board?

As often as you feel necessarry. You can add new goals and dreams as you work towards creating the life you want. Similarly, you can change your images to feel more motivated and focused.

Does my board need to be perfect?

I don’t recommend trying to create anything perfect the first time. Your board will likely change as you achieve goals and add new dreams. Therefore, ensuring your board motivates you is enough to get started and work towards your dreams.

How often should I look at my vision board?

It’s great to connect with it daily and this is a practice we teach in the EnVision app. In addition to this, we recommend 10-minutes a day of guided visualization.

How long does it take to create a vision board?

You can get started in just a few minutes with the EnVision app. It takes less than 2 minutes to create your first vision board.
